Boots, cellotape and tights

Or a misleading title for two things I found at my sister's blog, Aha!
The video uses some images I had thought of for a project on changing your own appearance with daily objects. And was really glad to see how it looked! And the bike, well, the bike just had to be passed on.
Happy Sunday!

Devendra Banhart

Mr M and me went tohis concert in Madrid and it was delicious. We had so much fun, and his talent is so evident.
If you've never seen him live, try.

Classic and playful

Gaga and Orlando

Orlando lived for 400 years, firstly as a man and later as a woman.
Gaga, are you reversing Orlando's story? Will you live 400 years?
Via.

Telephone VideoSong cover by Pomplamoose

Thumbs up!

the answer is Schiaparelli, Elsa Schiaparelli

And the question was about a dress worn by Lady Gaga. I had not seen this piece in a long time and, the other day, google randomly offered it to me. Then everythingmade sense. It so happens she was not necessarily promoting extreme thinness, but illustrating the public about her Surrealist influence. Kudos, Gaga.

Lost things

Magical and sweet, lovely imaginery. She looks like a cross between Christina Hendricks (aka Joan from Mad Men) and Fornasetti's drawings of Lina Cavalieri.
Via All the mountains.

Die Antwoord (confused, very confused)

Are they for real?

Can they possibly be?
Their name means "The answer".
They are an alternatively tatooed man, a girl that wears a mullet and looks like a child, and another dude. And sometimes a progeria-sufferer.
Rumor has it they can be a massive artistic performance, or even an ad (I've seen some images with Puma written on it). Remember, World Cup is coming.
So strange and trashy... it's attractive.
Has South Africa created a monster, or something advanced to its own time?

La leyenda del tiempo // The legend of Time

El soñaba sobre el tiempo
He was dreaming about time
Flotando como un velero
Floating like a sailing boat
Nadie puede abrir semillas
No one can open seeds
En el corazón del sueño
In the heart of the dream
El tiempo va sobre el sueño
Time goes on a dream
Hundido hasta los cabellos
Sinking up to the hair
Ayer y mañana comen
Yesterday and tomorrom are eating
Oscuras flores de duelo
Dark flowers in mourning

There is a lot of popular Kitsch around Camaron's figure, but I really like this song.

The implications of Lady Gaga's dress

Lady Gaga belongs to the type of people that you love or hate. I realize I look at her more as a performance artist than as a musician. Her job is to "épater le bourgeois", to make you look twice at the universe she's managed to create, to make you be opinionated. I think these type of people are healthy to have in the public shpere.
But now, let's look a bit closer to her new video, Bad Romance. Again, leave the music and what you think of it behind. The imagery (courtesy of Haus of Gaga) in these video call for words such as alien, futurisic, beastly, vampire, robotic, and, well, in her own way, sexy. You just need to take a look at the mad McQueen pieces and shoes. But there's one Haus of Gaga dress in specific that has risen a lot of questions for me.

Bearing in mind that there is a certain look all throughout the video, what does this dress imply?
We have all seen breast padding, even ass padding. But this is a very tight fitting one-piece outfit with... extra rib and spine. Following this line of thought... if women wear something to artificially augment their breasts it's because they are considered sexy or sensual. Does this mean that there is a sense of erotism in having one's bones so marked? Or is this to remark the otherworldliness of the whole thing? What do you think?

The jazz century

(art by Albert Alexander Smith)

(art by Marvin Israel)

Never thought I'd like this exhibition as much as I did. It was built so that on one side you had a timeline of jazz covers and news, and on the other side the art that was inspired by it. I found out some names I didn't know, although they could have dared adding more information on the political side.

The website has a lot of what's shown, so if you want to see it, click here.
Lovely and about to finish. If you are around, pop in (free on Sunday afternoons!)

Fireluche orchestra

I discovered this group in the Merce festivity (biggest event in Barcelona, loads and loads of free cultural events everywhere. Very, very worth it!).
They were on a merry-go-round -like structure and their music was really, really magic. If you could describe an ideal of childhood, full of fairy-tales, it would sound like this.
Enjoy!

Bliss

Mr M. and me have been off to London for the weekend to celebrate and have time for each other and it's been fab. (I'll tell you more about it eventually)
I've even seen Paul McCartney sing a Beatles song live, out of the blue. (ever told you I'm a Beatle-maniac?)
It's so good when life smiles.

Flatpack, an IKEA opera

The possibilities of IKEA are never ending. Whilst most of us have witnessed Soap Opera moments between couples and families there, I do not know how many have actually seen a proper Opera in IKEA. Well, fear not, it all arrives to those who wait. Flatpack is here. Enjoy.

Spotify!

Go here and download it now if you haven´t yet.

All the music of the world (approximately), for free, legal.

Downsides? You don´t own the music (it´s not on your computer, so it cannot be burnt or put unto your Ipod), and there´s an ad every half hour.

I can definitely live with this.

Wes Anderson

I once stated that I'd love to live in a Wes Anderson set. I stand by my sentence. I love Wes Anderson. I hallucinate with his colorful images, I feel satisfied with his unhappy wit. If you have not seen The Royal Tenenbaums, get up, now. Go find it. (OK, OK, you may as well just passively open a nother window, into amazon, and buy it nice and seated). And don't get me started on the soundtracks...

PS: Mr ANderson has made it into the blog "Stuff white people like". I painfully accept this entry is true.

New material for the shop!!

Dearest you, I have new stuff in my shop! yey!

Here's how I'd describe it:

I have started flirting with the idea of pieces of lyrics taken out of context. They provoke confronted feelings: they are familiar and at the same time request close attention to their sole meaning and existence. I have ideated this collection (it is a collection, wait and see) as little, tiny bits of happines and optimism, and hopfully they'll make you hum the song to yourself when you meet them.I have found these mini canvases (5cms x 7cms) which are perfect for me to play with these new concepts: a little one of these can be seen almost as a beat.

You can also use these as cards!

Camilla Sundwall

Camilla has been a colleague of mine in Central St. martins and she's got out of there as a star. This piece is hard work and she's finally got the video demonstrating how it works in her brand new website.
