Toy Story 3

I laughed, I howled, I shouted, I chuckled, I stabbed the seat with my nails, and I managed like a big girl not to cry. Go see it now.

kid to reality

An artist's project consisting of turning children's drawings into "realistic" images...
Reminds me of this project.

The Good, the Good and the Ugly: the good - Cori Mercade

So, good post number two: Cori Mercade.

Guess what, yes, I met her too.
Cori is an artist that paints conceptually. Now, that is not easy because as she says, "I cannot be labelled in galleries". I find that massively stupid of the gallerists because her work is gorgerous and sometimes dark, sometimes calming, but always passionate.
She explains that her labor as an artist is very much about education as well, and she set up an amazing conceptual art school for children with a friend in a coast village close to Barcelona. The work they do is about the process, not the results and there's no right or wrong. Parents quickly adapt. They teach adults, as well, and they even have a summer camp where children make movies. Isn't that just fantastic?

Balthus and Hamilton

...That very fine line between inspired and perverted (or how OK is it to view teenagers as sexual beings).

And an obvious connexion between the two.

Hamilton discovered via Mnemosyne.

Lucia, Luis y el lobo

Scary, mysterious and magic.
"Lucía, Luis y el lobo (Lucia, Luis and the Wolf) is a video installation in “Sala Cero” on the 2nd floor of Galería Animal(Animal Gallery) in Santiago, Chile. The exhibition is made up of the short films Lucía and Luis that are projected on a wall in the gallery as well as a series of other short animations shown on small screens in a pile of dirt and furniture. The exhibition closes the first stage of an animation project formed by Atallah, Cociña and León. The next stage will be a feature film called La casa lobo(The Wolf House), preparations for the film will start later this year." (text from Diluvio's site)

Fantastic Mr Fox, bring it on

Smart Monkey

I'm not on a matematical rage, but I thought this looked amazing, and worked fantastically!

Josue Gamonal and Vicente Porres

It looks like this week is all about damn good talents.

You've heard about Josue before (see here). He is one of my best friends and a fellow graduate from CSM. When I met Josue, I used that "if you can't beat them, join them" saying. He is exceptionally inventive, has a very personal view on the world and has accumulated all kind of arty degrees (illustration, graphic design, product design) and awards. He is now in Spain and has just been awarded the first place in the Maria Martinez design competition for Träd, a project made with Vicente Porres (sorry Vicente, I only just met you, so the gloryfication goes to Josue).

Träd is meant to be a hidding place for kids, a place where they can hide and play and develop their inner world (Josue did not need one of those, his inner world is very much developed). It also has a parent-pleasing practical side: the branches can help storing toys away, and the greenery turns into cushions. Isn't he (and Vicente) ridiculously good? Congratulations!
