Texts and theory

Texts and theory now available in my website, hopefully many more to come!

Hand/Eye Magazine: Barbie under the needle

Thanks so much to Keith from Hand/Eye magazine for being so generous with his time.

And thanks again for publishing the article. (I hope you guys like it, I don't use this blog to publish long texts, so I am very excited to see the text in such a great place!)

If you don't know this publication, go check it out! I'm a subscriber since number one and the paper editions are BEAUTIFUL.

Miranda July

She does rock my socks, badly.
Just the initial page of her site would do it.
But she's got a gorgeous movie out there, and a fab collection of stories. There's more, too, but I'm getting into her universe slowly, slowly.
If you ever thought that all performance artists rip their guts off in public whilst talking about their vaginas, try again. Her sweetness, and innocence and candour doesn't make her shallow, quite the contrary. It's like when you realize there are great writers that do not need big words to write beautifully.

Tada!

mariagilulldemolins.com is up and running (how many more changes will it undergo is still not known :) )

Free furniture? Yes thanks.

Ikea, be scared.

Foldschool is an awesome website where you can download the instructions and patterns to make your own (very well designed) cardboard furniture. Cheap, eco, interactive, personalizable. I'm off to making the stools (that sounds slightly wrong, doesn't it).

Binding Constant Show

Find this show online at Rare Device.
There's work by the exceptional Diem Chau (remember those fab carved crayons?), the great Lisa Solomon and the wonderful Marina Luz.

naming poll

I am thinking of making a portfolio that could include the totality of my work. Given that such page might outgrow the Nosideup brand, I'm a bit weary of using that as the domain. My second surname is quite unspellable for most languages...
What do you guys think?
Please take the poll!
(there's two musical options too, the very Spanish Porompompom and the Beatles (urban legend?) original version of Norwegian Wood, Knowing She Would.

Country envy

I sometimes suffer of country envy. You can be perfectly happy somewhere and suddenly you get this uncomfortable, inpractical feeling... country envy!

You get it on Sunday mornings, reading the paper, when you learn there's this awesome exhibition by your favourite artist in New York. You get it when you see South African houses. You get it when you live in a cold country and see pics of warmer places. You get it when you LOVE something on the internet and realise they only ship to France.

Well, I've just seen this post and wished I was in Argentina. (I have an insane obsession with this kind of furniture)

Spotify!

Go here and download it now if you haven´t yet.

All the music of the world (approximately), for free, legal.

Downsides? You don´t own the music (it´s not on your computer, so it cannot be burnt or put unto your Ipod), and there´s an ad every half hour.

I can definitely live with this.

That was interesting

Photoshop crimes and their proofs. It's good to be reminded of these atrocities, really.

Thanks, Krista!

Krista from the amusing and cool "Badder Homes and Gardens " Blog has been keen enough to feature my hair portraits. Thanks a ton!

The Story of Stuff

I know I keep on going on about shops and design, and that I'm trained as an industrial designer, but I still feel the need to pass this video on. It's a bit of a New Year resolution, keeping my head clear of what is needed and what's not. Although I'm sure that as a vegan on a small salary in a provisional flat I'm not the biggest consuming monster out there. Anyways, information is power.

You can have more power here.

The Selby

I do not know much about this site, but it has a very arty-farty feeling about it. It´s good to indulge in arty-fartyness every now and then. Consume with moderation!

Design Start

Darling Donna from Donnacampton has started a yummy new blog, Design Start, and she's been kind enough to feature some of my pieces. Since you already know those, why don't you check out all the other lovely articles she's put up? I've found some fab new (to me) etsians!
Postcard set above, by Donna. Available in her shop.

Free encouragement

Super cool Design for mankind and super booooooom have worked together to create the free encouragement contest. The idea is to send a positive (as personal as you want, as far as you don't name anybody) message to encouragement@booooooom.com (before the 5th of dec). They'll build a positive gallery with the answers!

Lovely!

One aphorism a day...

... makes you smile away...?

Check this out. It's by the School of life people (you saw it here first). I love the idea, and I love the quotes (aphorisms).

Idealist

Idealist is a website that helps young designers getting feedback on their work. You can just upload any idea/project and you'll soon start getting votes and comments. And if you prefer to read and watch, you'll find immensely creative ideas here.

Examples of exciting projects:

The SOS bowl by Studiobo.

The Abduction Lamp by Lassie Klein.

(I had my go a while ago, you can see it here and here).
