Scratch n Sniff Cinema

Aromas including rotting meat and dusty books that captured the scent of The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. By Bompas and Parr.

Marina Abramovic: THE KITCHEN

Really intriguing quote of St. Therese about not being able to eat when hungry because of levitation taking over her body.

I can't help thinking somebody might see some " divine bootcamp" in this whole idea...
Nonetheless, bowing before the great dame of performance and her plasticity and intensity and, why not, sense of humour, in a way.

The Good, the Good and the Ugly: the good - Denys Blaker

Hi everyone.
I've been super busy this weekend and I must say it's been a fabulous collection of days.
So I've got three posts to explain these to you: the good, the good and the ugly (why can't anyone have two days in peace?).

Well, good post number one is about Denys Blacker.
Denys trained as a sculptor and slowly started introducing her body in her work (this even happened literally), developing into a performance artist.
She was performing in Barcelona this weekend and I had the pleasure of being introduced to her. She was showing her heart/mind sculptures, a series of ceramic objects to be used to project goodwill and healing to other people and oneself. It was very poetical.
She also organizes a performance festival in her village every year, where everyone takes part.
Impressive, huh?

Love, love, love...

Via MANDR

Miranda July

She does rock my socks, badly.
Just the initial page of her site would do it.
But she's got a gorgeous movie out there, and a fab collection of stories. There's more, too, but I'm getting into her universe slowly, slowly.
If you ever thought that all performance artists rip their guts off in public whilst talking about their vaginas, try again. Her sweetness, and innocence and candour doesn't make her shallow, quite the contrary. It's like when you realize there are great writers that do not need big words to write beautifully.

Die Antwoord (confused, very confused)

Are they for real?

Can they possibly be?
Their name means "The answer".
They are an alternatively tatooed man, a girl that wears a mullet and looks like a child, and another dude. And sometimes a progeria-sufferer.
Rumor has it they can be a massive artistic performance, or even an ad (I've seen some images with Puma written on it). Remember, World Cup is coming.
So strange and trashy... it's attractive.
Has South Africa created a monster, or something advanced to its own time?

Old Persons home by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu

Mr M. and I went to the Saatchi Gallery and were completely blown away. SO much art, all for free, with free magazines, free membership...
This work was specially spooky, for lack of a better word. It was strangely entrancing, though.

Flatpack, an IKEA opera

The possibilities of IKEA are never ending. Whilst most of us have witnessed Soap Opera moments between couples and families there, I do not know how many have actually seen a proper Opera in IKEA. Well, fear not, it all arrives to those who wait. Flatpack is here. Enjoy.

Regina Jose Galindo

Mr. M. and I checked out what's up in the Museum of Modern Art and again... umph!

The performance work of Regina Jose Galindo is not easy. It is actually rather brutal. She mostly works by inflicting on her own body the treatment others receive in war, punishment, prison, etc. She also has more social issues based projects, such as one where she is drawn with all the lines charactheristic of cosmetic surgergy.
