Banksy's film. Can't wait!

Riding a horsey

So cool, su fun, so naive, so stylish. So damn awesome I'd cry.

Best thing? It's a clip-on accessory sort of thing. You don't need to buy a new bike. I see. You're crying of joy yourself, now. There, there.

Hashima

This is the island of Hashima, one of the 505 abandoned islands in the Nagasaki Prefecture.
There is something so evoquing, so dramatic, so nostalgic. All the concrete, so human, so urban, so alone.
See more here.
Thanks, Mr Ed for showing these to me.
PS: Guess who's got internet finally!... :)

Crossing culture and domesticity

Nice re-contextualization of the domestic unto the urban, and interesting juxtaposition of cultural imagery (the grey road, the flowery persian-like rug). By Lise El Sayed.

PS: note to self, do not use "nice" and "interesting" as adjectives ever again.

Helmut Smits

I can't remember where I found his work but he is awesome!

(If you do know, please post a message so I can credit this!)
He's planted a tree in front of a billboard, and he color-mixes with colorful beverages. He has also organized "white cars only" parkings and filtered coke until water comes out. And placed logos in natural landscapes.

Matatu

Matatus are little vans in Nairobi. They are all widly decorated, and some are themed with politicians or celebrities. This one is rather fabulous.

Thanks to On Africa (Mr. M).

the only thing I can't resist...

... is temptation.

The fun theory

The concept of "play" has always been thought relevant in the world of design. But this is amazingly applied to public spaces for a better environment.

I'm wondering, though, is this hidden advertising for Volkswagen?

Fab!

Heavenly

I did not write "here and there" as I said I would. But I shall be forgiven for Paris was absolutely delightful. I went with the secret anger of knowing it could not live up to the hype to all the " you'll love it", "oh, it's just so beautiful", "Oh, Paris, I really love that city". But it did. And it exceeded expectatives. The museums! (Oh, Pompidou, Oh, Quai de Branly); all the boulangeries and little shops! The Parfum shops!! Oh, oh, oh.
Too good.
I'll search through the pictures that Mr M took (I am a disaster with cameras); and I'll share the nicest ones.
Oh!

Banksy vs. Bristol

I've been sight-seeing the UK with Mr. M.'s family and one of the highlights has been the Banksy exhibition.

Now, I liked what I had seen by him, but what I experienced in Bristol completely blew me away. The sense of humour is sharp and merciless, and sometimes creepy and depressing. I also had the feeling that anyone trying to work on overtly political art will find themselves thinking "Banksy already did that", because there was SO much and SO different to be seen in the show.

I also particularly enjoyed the way the exhibition was organized. It was almost a hide and seek game, watching out between the permanet collection to spot Banksy's hidden pieces.
If you can, go. The hours of waiting were completely worth it.

Eco advertising.

Curb is a London-based advertising company. They use techniques like cleaning surfaces with a stencil or stamping snow or sculpting sand. 10/10 on creativity, 10/10 on eco-responsibility!

public thoughts

More on "street" art: random tought (love) bubbles!

Reclaim the streets!

Here are some projects that try to regain control over the public spaces... (as usual, click on images to go to source).

Oliver Bishop-Young

You want urban? You want interactive? You want idyllic transgression?

Get a bit of Oliver Bishop-Young. This gentleman has turned skips around London into little inner-city havens.

I love how a dirt container turns into a garden, or a swimming pool. More here.
