You will meet a tall dark stranger
Yesterday, I went to watch the latest Woody Allen movie with Mr M and Mr E (BF and BFF respectively). I hadn't enjoyed a movie by Mr Allen in a long while (since Match Point) and this was rather fab. (I'm still wondering about the cliches. They basically sustained the movie, even though they were very well cut. The one character that was quite unbelievable was Dia, I think. But tell me what you felt if you watched it.)
Then we all three strolled around Madrid and the ending summer and ended up sitting in front of the reina Sofia Museum, with Mr E reading our hands (very adequate after the movie). Mr E lived in India when he was a UWC student and he learnt then how to do it. The most striking thing he said to us was about the lines changing. He suggested we scan our hands and compare the lines in six months. He assured us they would be different. If there really is something to be read in our palms, it's something that is also written and edited, slowly. Doesn't that make you think?
PS:I was looking for the English speaking poster to illustrate this post and surprise! It looks terribly different to the Spanish speaking one. I deffinitely prefer the later .

The bad conscience
It's been 10 days since my last post and my bad conscience is killing me. I don't even know how this has happened. I guess that I've had so many things going on that I haven't even known how to get back on blog track. So, here's the last few days:
-Basically, Mr. M. and I have learnt it's moving time again (most probably). This makes us happy for all the new possibilities, but we feel that Barcelona has been really awesome to us, and feel like our time here has been so short.
-This has also leads to having to act upon the future of my education. We'll see how that goes.
-I've also learnt to paint with liquid watercolours rather than acrylics and I'm in a very blissful Rothko fase. Pictures to come.
-My vegan heart does not take the zoo drawing lessons that well anymore. But I've developed a new personal style.
-Spring isn't quite happening yet.
-I've cut my hair so short I still don't recognize myself in the mirror.
-Fantastic Mr Fox only opened in cinemas now and we loved it.
-Alice in Wonderland did not meet expectatives.
I'm hopefully back now!

La teta asustada
La Teta Asustada is a Peruvian movie nominated to "best foreign film" for the Oscars.
It's the story of a young woman who suffers from a strange illness: "la teta asustada" (the scared tit). This happens to the children of those raped and tortured women during the violent 80s and 90s, and the illness is transmitted throught breast milk.
The movie is full of a paused sense of magic and light, and has a rare sensitivity. It's absolutely mind-blowing (although in an implosive rather than explosive way).
Spanish TV has in online for free, but I don't know if you can access it from outside Spain.

Miranda July
She does rock my socks, badly.
Just the initial page of her site would do it.
But she's got a gorgeous movie out there, and a fab collection of stories. There's more, too, but I'm getting into her universe slowly, slowly.
If you ever thought that all performance artists rip their guts off in public whilst talking about their vaginas, try again. Her sweetness, and innocence and candour doesn't make her shallow, quite the contrary. It's like when you realize there are great writers that do not need big words to write beautifully.

Paralelisms in desintegrating lives
There are so many paralelisms in these two stories that I need to urge somebody to write a thesis about it. The two have bumped into my life something like 24hrs appart, too, which is even more unnerving. Any one else that I can share this experience with?

Tillsammans (Together)
I found this movie bu Lukas Moodysson really engaging, really human and really moving. And it reminded me of the "togetherness" I experienced in London (which was horrendous); and made me feel like there might be hope left for sharing.
Who knows.
All I know is that this movie is worth searching and watching.

Up
I went to the cinema to see Up, the new Pixar movie.
And all I'll say is that I feel I've gained or learnt something from having gone and watched it. And for that i must be a teeny tiny bit of a better person. I obviously enjoyed myself enormously. I can confidently say it's the best animation movie I've ever seen.
Please, do not miss it. You'll be a bit more human afterwards.

Wes Anderson
I once stated that I'd love to live in a Wes Anderson set. I stand by my sentence. I love Wes Anderson. I hallucinate with his colorful images, I feel satisfied with his unhappy wit. If you have not seen The Royal Tenenbaums, get up, now. Go find it. (OK, OK, you may as well just passively open a nother window, into amazon, and buy it nice and seated). And don't get me started on the soundtracks...PS: Mr ANderson has made it into the blog "Stuff white people like". I painfully accept this entry is true.

We all have a past...
... and I've met Almodovar's. The now internationally acclaimed director is tightly related to the Spanish Movida, the 80's social and cultural revolution that took place mostly in Madrid. And Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del monton reflects the ambience of it. And it's actually a very bizarre film. I still haven't decided if I like it or not. I have a certain dettachment from a John Waters movie which allows me to enjoy it; with Almodovar it might hit home too close. Still deciding myself, but give it a go yourselves and see what you think.1.9.08 2
Wall-e
Been out to see Wall-e...I had been told by all my reliable acquitenances that it was the best movie ever. I was expecting an 11 out of 10.
I've loved certain details (the Windows sound Wall-e makes, the collection of objects, the credits at the end, the silence); but the second half might have a too evident message. Disney always shows through. So a 9,5 out of 10. Because as far as animation is concerned, it's impecable. The music is unexpected and works brillantly.
And I've seen the trailer for Bolt. Beware people, because the hamster (Rhino) is gonna take the world by storm!
