THIS GIVAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

My dear darling everyone,

September is here and that means that by now this blog is over TWO years old. It feels like a lifetime!
Thanks to everyon who is reading this: the faithful, the stumblers, and the irregulars. I am extremely blessed to ahve you all here.
In order to express my gratitude properly (you know what's coming...) I'm going to organize a giveaway. I am calling it giveaway but it's actually a MASSIVEGIVEAWAY. Or rather, TWO (get the relation there?).

PRICE A:
A hair portrait. Wait. Your hair portrait. This means I'll draw your hairdo, you hair, your neck. With very much love. This will be now offered and it's worth 75 dollars.

PRICE B:
A face portrait made with pencils. And yes, that'd be YOUR face (or whoever's you chose). This is also offered in the shop and it's worth 125 dollars.

All you have to do is comment in this post BEFORE THE 15th of SEPTEMBER and saying why would you like your portrait made (either of them). The two winners will be chosen at random :)

Best of luck!

I already own a beautiful piece of yours, but I'm in desperate need of a hair portrait! How did you know?? :D

  2. gravatar Lucía says:

Well, I'd be really happy if you could make a face portrait of my brother. He's got Down Syndrom and as his elder sister living far away from him, I think he would be absolutely amazed to see himself artistically portrayed :-) ...Plus I really think he deserves to be immortalised :-)

  3. gravatar Tess Carter says:

oh that hair portrait idea is TOO CUTE!!!! It would make the *perfect* gift for my cousin- who is so hard to buy for, but she couldn't not love this!

I would love for you to do a face portrait of my mother. She means the absolute world to me and my 6 brothers and sisters and even though she tells us to absolutely not get her presents (she knows we're in school and don't have much money to spare) this would be something that I really think she would love. Plus she never does anything for herself and never gets to feel beautiful (although she is very beautiful) and I just know your painting would do just that!

  5. gravatar Unknown says:

I would love either. I would be able to gift my husband a portrait of me. Be a nice addition to his man room :-)

  6. Well, I'm so glad to have found your blog on the Etsy Forum! You have beautiful work and I love your style. I used to be bored at church as a child and would sketch the backs of heads the whole hour.

  9. gravatar Anonymous says:

oh wow, the hair portraits are amazing!!! I'd just like to have a more artistic representation of my "good hair day" :)

  10. gravatar Irit says:

I would love to have my hair or face drawn by you. It would make the perfect gift to myself for my next birthday. ^_^

  11. gravatar fruzsi says:

I would LOVE a hair portrait! All through high school my friends referred to my hair as my "mane", as there was a lot of it, and it looked like a lion's fuzzy fur. I wore my long hair in a tight bun, which if taken out resulted in BIG curls! So this portrait would mean a lot to me and remind me of all the good times with my friends, who are now all over the world.

  12. gravatar Brook says:

Oh those are absolutely beautiful. I'd love to give one to my husband. I wonder, do you do portraits of dogs? My 16 year old wirehair dachshund that I've had since I was 16 recently has become ill and I would love something like this to remember him by.

  13. gravatar Julia says:

oh well, I´d love to own one of your hair portraits, not necessarily one of my hair (it´s not worth a portrait) but of a hairdo you find inspiring! I think you are very visually talented and I love all the things you´ve done so far, so I´m sure it will be beauiful no matter what.

  14. gravatar Elle says:

oh my oh my oh my.

    you're rad.

  15. gravatar brittni says:

    @Brook,
yes, I definitely do animal portraits!
I've spent my last year drawing three weekly hours at the zoo for my drawing class.
ANd I can definitely know how one can love their pets an awful lot.

  17. gravatar .tif says:

Our first child, our baby boy Elisha, will be six months old this month. We've been considering getting professional photos, but an awesome, unique, hand-drawn portrait would be such a special way to celebrate the half-way point of his first year in the outside world!

i would love the hair portrait of my little nephew, jayven. he has this ridiculous rat tail which his mom loves so much and has kept it since he was little. she refuses to cut it even though everyone, including my nephew, wants it cut because he's too old for it (5 yr old) and grew out of the odd hairstyle (about 5in long now). this would be a memorabilia-type of thing so his mom can keep after cutting his rat tail off (hopefully).

    thanks so much!

I've been ogling these hair portraits for weeks now! I can do my own self-portrait! But I don't dare go down the path of the hair self-portrait! I'd like to outsource that...to you!

  22. gravatar TIffany says:

These are so cool! I have always been very self conscious of my profile and I am just starting to embrace my bumpy nose as a quirky part of my face that adds character (at least that is what my mom always said) - I would love to see it on the wall as a big "take that!" to anyone who fails to find beauty in the imperfections of the world...

  23. Six months ago (as of 09/12/10) I had two emergency surgeries to remove cancer. Since then I have a sort of love/hate relationship with that day. On the one hand it left me unable to have children and as a result of complications I almost died. On the other hand I'm alive, cancer free and have reevaluated what I want from my life. I'm about to celebrate six months cancer free and I can't think of a better way to memorialize such an important event.

  29. gravatar Jenni O says:

  30. i would LOVEEEEEEEEEE to have OPTION A. waooo your art is so amazing.

  31. gravatar Meg says:

    congratulations!
    (i hope i win i hope i win i hope i win)

  33. Oooh, what a lovely giveaway! I'd go for the face portrait because my hair is usually rather boring. Or I'd give the hair portrait to my sister as a gift - she has gorgeous hair, all thrown together in a beautiful, effortless way.

  34. gravatar Malori says:

    This giveaway is FABULOUS!

I lovee the hair portrait. It's so unique. If I don't win it's absolutely going to be my next purchase. You're so incredibly talented!

As for the face portrait, that'd be so lovely to hang in my new apartment. I have a wall full of prints/antique posters/old family photos and this would be a FABULOUS addition :)!!

  35. gravatar Judith says:

I just want the hair portrait because i think it's neat. but i'd love to get a face portrait of me for my mother. We had a lot of family pictures taken in a storage unit mishap and unfortunately most of them were me. I'm pretty sure she'd bawl.

  36. gravatar melanie says:

I would love one of these portraits because they are so fantastic and original! And I love love love original artwork. (And, fantastic things.)

  37. gravatar Basteffen says:

I would love to finally own one of your pieces and hang the hair portrait in our bathroom. I have been searching for some art and your's is perfect!!

  38. gravatar Kat G says:

  39. gravatar Paola says:

I am getting married on October 1st and have been preparing what will be my new home with my soon-to-be husband (in fact, we just painted the house today!). We are now ready to dress our walls up and your awesome portraits - both hair and face - would be a fabulous wedding gift!

  40. gravatar Unknown says:

I've never had a portrait done
before and would love to have one
    by you :D

  41. Stunning. My daughter is a synchronized swimmer and I would love a hair portrait of her with her hair up in a bun before a competition. Thanks for the opportunity!

  42. gravatar Heidi Rohr says:

ok so....AWESOME giveaway!! I'd LOVE to win this, especially the hair portrait. EVERY where I go...people always comment on my "messy bun" hair style...I've been doing it forever and even wore it that way in my wedding. It's one of my signatures so when I saw this post today, I HAD to enter...please please pick me <3

  43. gravatar Penelope says:

What a great contest!! I'd love the hair one because my stylist friend did my hair the other day, I love it and took a pic, and I'd love to capture that forever!

I'd use the face one for my five-year-old son, Aidan. He's at a stage I adore and want to remember always!

  44. What a great giveaway!
Well I would love the hair portrait especially because I just love the style of those drawings and I have for some time.
But I would love the face portrait too because I still have a charicaturue of me on the wall done when I was 11 and a new (more realistic) drawing of me would be a great change!

  45. gravatar Camila F. says:

I would be grateful for the opportunity to have your interpretation of my husband's head and hair. I love to pet it when we sit beside eachother. It's soft and curly. He would be delighted I think. Regarding the face portrait I would prize one of my son. He is four years old and losing his sight. I would like to capture this moment of his perfection. Regardless thanks for sharing your work with everyone. I have enjoyed seeing it immensely.

  47. gravatar Anna says:

sounds weird but my mom & i have a special bond over my hair. she braided it everyday till highschool. when i was younger she washed it in the sink while i layed on the counter. No one ever cut my hair until I was 20!
This would an awesome gift for her.

  48. gravatar Erica M. says:

What a generous giveaway! I love this idea, and congratulations on your 2-year blog anniversary. Your work with colored pencils is particularly skilled; I love your style. My hair is not particularly "portrait worthy," but a face portrait would be a nice gift for my husband.

  49. gravatar Anonymous says:

Both would be an awesome prize but I (like many others here it seems!) would LOVE the hair portrait!

I almost always wear my hair up and ever since I can remember using scrunchies (yup - scrunchies.) I have had a lop-sided pony tail/bun. It's sort of turned into this "signature look" for me (not that I intended it at all) but I would totally love to have it created in an art piece!

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  50. gravatar Anonymous says:

I would like to win a hair portrait because I have just decided to cut off my long hair that I've had for many years and a portrait would be such a nice way to remember it. Your portraits are so beautiful.

  51. gravatar Morgan says:

oh my goodness! i have been eyeing your GORGEOUS hair portraits for quite some time. i would just DIE to win one. so. lovely!

    happy blog birthday!!

  52. gravatar S says:

  54. gravatar Crissy says:

I can't even imagine how glorious it would be to have a custom hair portrait. I just adore the simplicity and personality of your portraits! Congrats on two years!

  55. gravatar Mariah says:

The portraits, face and hair, are so intimate and lovely, I would be thrilled to have one of either!

  56. gravatar Aemilia says:

I would love to have a reminder of my little girls' two little braids. Would look so great in your style!

    aemiliabosman@hotmail.com

  57. gravatar bethany says:

Eek! How lucky are we to get a crack at this?!

I would love to have a hair portrait. Growing up I had the most difficult kinky, curly hair...which my mother fashioned into an afro. Needless to say, I was an easy pick-on target for the boys, and used cry, wishing with all my heart I could change it. Now that I've grown, I have changed the style...but my hair is something I've grown to love (most days) and will always symbolize my learning to accept the unique traits that make us individuals. :)

    Long winded-but true.

    Love your work!

  58. gravatar Noel P. says:

A hair portrait would be such an unexpected, lovely and memorable gift for my mother, who happens to have the most beautiful hair (in my opinion).

  59. gravatar robin says:

It's hard to decide between the two, but a face portrait would be the perfect gift for my hard-to-buy-for husband!

  60. gravatar lizzie bee says:

oh my, i love your work and am so excited for a chance to win! i adore your hair portraits, so clever. thanks!

  61. gravatar kelly says:

i'd love a hair portrait! i chopped basically all my hair off in college after having the same style forever and NOT being a fan of my hair in general. then when it grew back it was magically wavy (i'm asian so this is kind of strange). now i love love love my hair, but the back is my favorite part and i never get to see it :( could this post sound an ymore arrogant? no. do i really want this portrait? YES!
either way your work is beautiful, congratulations!

  62. gravatar Peckish says:

Oh my - a portrait would be lovely, and might help give me the courage to chop my very long hair off (as I've been meaning to for ages) if I had a way to remember it!

  63. gravatar Lisa Mane says:

This is so wonderful, I'd love to have either of those portraits!! I would love a portrait of my hair or a portrait of my grandmother, who's an artist. I painted her portrait one christmas but it didn't turn out that well, so I'd love to give her one that is (extremely) well done!!

  64. gravatar Unknown says:

I would love you to do a portrait of my hair,
this is because you do it with such care.
with wisps and twists, bouffants and bows.
You have a talent so beautifully rare.

    <3

    Love a long time fan,
    Indi :)

  65. gravatar Tracy says:

I would love a portrait because nothing about my new apartment feels like me, but if I had a portrait on a wall somewhere, the place couldn't help but clearly be so mine.

  66. Big big fan of yours! Would be a lovely addition to my art collection;)

  67. gravatar Nadia says:

I would love to be considered for this giveaway. I think the hair portrait would make a beautiful piece to add to my humble home. Thanks for this opportunity!

  68. gravatar Mikaelle S says:

Never having a talent for drawing, I always admired the art. It takes skill to make a 3d image into 2d especially a human face. I have prints from Goya, Dali, Remedios Varo but nothing as personal as a face portait from Maria Gil Ulldemolins. I would forever cherish a portait from a artist like you.

  69. I have always wanted a serious portrait of my pit bull (for silly purposes of course), and I think this would be perfect! And I would love a pencil drawing of my husband's hair--he has ridiculously thick, curly hair, and it is my favorite thing in the world.

  70. gravatar Rachel says:

my sister is a hair stylist and she has given me all sorts of reasons to love hair... the portraits are just beautiful and i would be so thrilled to call one my own! having a custom portrait would be a dream come true.

    rachelruzgis(at)gmail(dot)com

  71. gravatar Unknown says:

Once I saw your lovely hair portrait, I knew that would be the one for me! Although I don't have long hair, I still love the intricate details you seem to draw with ease!

  72. gravatar Rachel says:

I would love to give this to my best friend since kindergarten who's getting married in 2 months. Many of my memories of her involve her hair in some way--it's long and blonde and she loves it. It would be so special to give her your portrait of her wedding hairstyle.

  73. gravatar Anait says:

I would love a face portrait...I would send it to my grandmother in Latvia whom I haven't seen for over ten years and who I miss terribly. Beautiful drawings!

  74. gravatar laura says:

I would love a hair portrait! Your line work is just gorgeous.

  75. gravatar Kalivoda says:

Considering my hair has a mind of it's own, how lovely to have it captured in my favorite state!

That's one to frame and leave on the vanity.

    Laceykalivoda (at) hotmail (dot) com

  76. gravatar love-v says:

If I were the lucky winner of such a portrait, it would be a gift for my best friend. She has always had the most amazing hair and yet would never think to have it immortalized in art. My hair is thin, fine and straight and hers is the opposite. I've secretly coveted it all my life.

  77. I would love my portrait drawn to give to my Mom. We look exactly alike--hair and all--and it would be lovely to give her this portrait for her 55th birthday (next week!). She would love it!

  78. gravatar Cybil says:

i would love a face portrait of my grams june. i feel like i'm becoming more and more like her each day. her smiling face would be lovely right above my record player.
    alisonamberg@berkeley.edu

  79. gravatar Jen says:

i am really digging your work, either would be great! i love the line quality of your drawings :)

  80. gravatar Maggie says:

I don't have a reason other than that I think your work is amazing and I would love to commemorate my "wedding hair" in this way!

  81. gravatar Park Street says:

Your hair portraits are PERFECT. Such amazing attention to detail. I would be honored to own one of your prints.

  82. gravatar Samantha says:

Your work is absolutely lovely! I think it would be fantastic to be immortalized in such a lovely manor :]

  84. Ooh!

  85. Aggh... your hair portraits are just absolutely gorgeous!!

My hair doesn't do pretty things like the ones you've created, so I would say a face portrait of my fiance. I think having something like that is so intimate and forever... I just love them.

  86. I hope I win, I hope I win, I hope I win

    :)

    apt20h@gmail.com

  87. gravatar Ellen says:

I would love to win the hair portrait! I'm getting married in October and my mom is going to wrangle my crazy long hair into a twisty up-do. It seems fitting to have the woman who did my hair for me every day when I was little put it up on my wedding day. It makes me so happy to involve my mom in the wedding in such an intimate way. I would love to be able to capture the final outcome in an equally intimate manner :)

  88. gravatar bianca says:

oh my goodness i would love this too much! having a hair portrait is possibly one of the coolest ways to immortalize one's personality. i love it!

  89. gravatar Allison says:

I would love to be the winner because I am a art student who is horrible at self-portraits...

  90. gravatar cali says:

i have been a fan of yours for quite some time now! i would absolutely love to win a hair portrait. what a wonderful giveaway. this is such a great idea! i'm going to have to get these as gifts for my favorite friends when i can afford to! :)
